Subway Surfers is one of the most popular mobile endless runners, if not the most popular one that exists. The free game from Sybo Games has attracted millions of players throughout the decade it’s been on the market—a huge community that tirelessly seeks new ways to get the highest score possible. To reach that goal, it’s essential to understand what the multiplier is and how to increase it. Luckily for you, we’re here today to explain everything you need to know about this important element of the game.

What is the multiplier in Subway Surfers?

If you look at the top right corner in the main menu of Subway Surfers you’ll see a golden star with a number next to it. This is the multiplier: an indicator that, as its name suggests, multiplies the score you get in each race. At the beginning, you’ll start out with only x1, but as you advance and complete missions, you’ll be able to increase it. Currently the maximum is x30, although using additional objects it can reach up to x94, which is definitely useful for reaching a high score.

How to increase the multiplier in Subway Surfers

There are a few different ways to increase the multiplier in Subway Surfers, including some not entirely legitimate methods that trick the game by modifying its code to increase this indicator artificially. We’re not going to explain those ways to improve the multiplier here, but we are going to explain how to get a leg up in the game, by playing fair and square.

Here are 5 methods to increase the Subway Surfers multiplier:

  • Complete mission sets: sets 1 to 30 allow you to increase your multiplier by completing certain missions, such as collecting coins or jumping over a certain number of trains in a single race.
  • Use a “2x Multiplier”: this is an item that temporarily increases your multiplier for 12 seconds.
  • Get a “Super Mysterizer”: this object (a purple question mark) appears randomly and only during the “Mystery Monday” event. If you manage to get it, your multiplier will increase by 10 levels for a limited time, among other advantages.
  • Play “Special Thursdays”: during this event you’ll get five more multiplier points until the end of the race.
  • Use a “Score Booster”: this is a special power that can be used at the beginning of the race to increase the Subway Surfers multiplier by five points until the end of the race.
